Template for Requesting American Airlines to Convert Your Upgrade Points to Miles
American just sent out an email saying that they're going to finish converting the 500-mile upgrade points to Loyalty Points on July 14th. If you ask, they'll convert any of the upgrade points that you paid for to AAdvantage miles, which you can use for free flights. They've been converting each one to 5,000 AAdvantage miles, which is a really good conversion if you use your Platinum Card credit to buy the $40 upgrade points.
If you earned the upgrade points from flying or from a status challenge, they'll convert them over to Loyalty Points, which is decent if you're trying to qualify for status but otherwise not very useful. That's why it's key to get the upgrade points you paid for converted to miles.

Subject: "Request for Converting 500-mile Upgrade Points Conversion to AAdvantage Miles"
Hello American Airlines,
It has come to my attention that the 500-mile upgrade points will be converted to 250 Loyalty Points each on July 14, as AAdvantage is now offering unlimited complimentary upgrades to all levels of AAdvantage Elite Members and companions.
While this is a welcomed change, these 500-mile upgrade points had a retail price of $40, and I do not believe that 250 Loyalty Points is an adequate conversion. I currently have [insert number of upgrade points] of these upgrade points in my AAdvantage account.
Would it be possible for AAdvantage to convert my [insert number] upgrade points to AAdvantage Award miles?
