To the Point

The American Express® Gold Card, a favorite among foodies and travelers alike, has just undergone some significant changes. Whether you’re already a cardholder or considering applying, here’s what you need to know about the recent updates.

Changes for Current Amex Gold Cardholders

If you currently have the Amex Gold Card in your wallet, you need to know about these new benefits and make sure to enroll in them!

  1. New Annual Fee: The annual fee has increased from $250 to $325. While this might seem steep, the new benefits more than offset the fee hike.

  2. New White Gold Color: for a limited time, you can request to have your card replaced with a new color option!

  3. New Statement Credits:

    • Resy Dining Credits - $100: Earn up to $100 per year in Resy dining credits. You’ll get $50 twice a year, which can be used at eligible Resy restaurants in the U.S.

    • Dunkin’ Credits - $84: Enjoy up to $84 per year in Dunkin’ credits. That’s $7 each month, perfect for your morning coffee run

  4. Existing Credits:

    • Uber Cash - $120: Up to $120 annually in Uber Cash for U.S. Uber rides or Uber Eats orders.

    • Dining Credits - $120: Up to $120 annually in dining credits at participating merchants like Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, and Five Guys.

Note: Terms apply. See Rates & Fees for more details.

These new credits alone can more than cover the $75 increase in the annual fee, providing additional value for your everyday spending.

Enhanced Welcome Offer for New Applicants

For those considering the Amex Gold Card, the new welcome offer is more enticing than ever:

Welcome Bonus: Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 on eligible purchases within the first six months.

Dining Credit: Get 20% back as a statement credit for eligible restaurant purchases up to $100 within the first six months.

This welcome offer, valued at up to $1,300 according to Points Passport’s July 2024 valuations, makes the Amex Gold Card a compelling option for new cardholders.

Why the Amex Gold Card is Worth It

The Amex Gold Card is renowned for its high earning potential, especially for food-related purchases:

4X Points on Dining and Groceries: Earn 4 points per dollar on dining at restaurants and on U.S. supermarket purchases (up to $50,000 and $25,000 per calendar year, respectively).

3X Points on Flights: Earn 3 points per dollar on flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel.

Additional Perks: Earn 2X points on prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel and 1X points on all other purchases.

These points can be transferred to 18 airlines and three hotel partners, maximizing your travel rewards.

Maximizing the New Credits and Benefits

To get the most out of your Amex Gold Card, make sure to:

Enroll in All Benefits: Enrollment is required for select benefits, so be sure to activate your Uber Cash, dining credits, Resy credits, and Dunkin’ credits.

Use Your Credits Wisely: Plan your spending to take full advantage of the monthly and annual credits. These can add up to $424 in value per year, easily covering the $325 annual fee.

Leverage Transfer Partners: Use your Membership Rewards points with Amex’s airline and hotel partners to maximize the value of your points
