Hilton Honors makes 4 Positive Changes for 2020!
Positive Changes to Hilton Honors
Last week the travel rewards community was not thrilled with some less than exciting news about Chase increasing the Chase Sapphire Reserve's annual fee to a whopping $550. Luckily, as of January 9, 2020 we have four positive changes coming out of Hilton Honors reward program to liven our spirits and increase our points banks. These following updates will be a huge help to get you closer to that points redemption and free vacation:
Multiple Room Bookings: Hilton Honors has increased their multiple room booking point earning capabilities from two (2) rooms to four (4) rooms. This unlocks the potential to earn four times as many points. Essentially, you can book a room for yourself, your kids, your mother and your mother-in-law all under your Hilton Honors account and be able to earn the respective points for it. If you booked these four rooms with the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card you will be earning 34x Hilton Honors points per dollar spent for all four rooms. If you travel with a larger group or family often, this new updated benefit could reap huge rewards. If you do not have the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, which comes with complementary Diamond Status, you will be pleased to know that each room you book gets you an additional elite night credit toward status. For example, if you book four (4) rooms for one (1) night, you will receive four (4) elite night credits toward your next status level!
Points Passport's Thought's: This positive update could be massive if you travel as a family or a group even once a year. For example, over Thanksgiving, we booked three (3) rooms at a Marriott Bonvoy property, but per their policy, we only earned elite night credits for the room the account holder stayed in. Due to this we may be booking with Hilton next family gathering.
No Points Earning Limit: Hilton Honors has updated their previous point earning cap from 100,000 Hilton Honors points per stay to having no limit! This positive Hilton Honors change definitely correlates with the above four (4) room maximum point earning ability. This new benefit combination creates the very likely possibility of earning over 100,000 points for a Hilton stay. Again, if you couple this unlimited point earning perk with a four (4) room reservations on your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, which earns 34x Hilton Honors point per dollar spent at Hilton, you could easy surpass 100,000 Hilton Honors points during a stay.
Points Passport's Thoughts: As mentioned above, this new positive perk expands the point earning potential significantly. Coupled with a four room reservation and the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card you will be swimming in points and booking your next point redemption in no time.
Earn on Incidentals: Previously, you would only earn points for the room rate NOT incidental spending at certain Hilton brands such as Hampton Inn, Tru, Homewood Suites, and Home2 Suites. Now, Hilton Honors has expanded your incidental point earning capabilities to all Hilton brands. Feel free to grab a snack out of the pantry if you're staying at a Hampton Inn because you'll earn your respective points now!
Points Passport's Thoughts: If you frequent these Hilton Honor's brands then this is somewhere you will be able to extract even more Hilton Honors points from. That extra snack or drink will earn you just a few extra points. Cheers!
Points Expire in 15 Months: Previously, Hilton Honors Points expired within 12 months of inactivity. Now, Hilton Honors has increased the time period to 15 months of inactivity before your Hilton Honors Points expire.
Points Passport's Thoughts: Never a bad thing to have more time to spend your points. Another small but helpful benefit from Hilton Honors this new year. Keep in mind it should be fairly simple to keep your Hilton Honors points earning active by using a Hilton Honors credit card, or joining Hilton Honors Dining program. Each time you earn a Hilton Honors point you reset your 15 month clock.
Final Point
During a time where many rewards programs and credit card issuers are reducing the value of their cards and points, it is extremely refreshing news to see Hilton Honors increasing and expanding perks and benefits. While we may only take advantage of multiple room bookings once or twice a year, it opens the ability to earn massive amounts of points especially when we are going to be spending that money and booking those rooms anyway.
