Chase Offers: How I got $1,000 Worth of 7 for All Mankind Jeans for $298!
Chase Offers: How I got $1,000 Worth of 7 for All Mankind Jeans for $298!
Saving money isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about a credit card, it's the bill that comes due at the end of the month. More reliable than the US Post Office, at the end of the month that lovely statement comes in and reminds you of all the fun you had the previous month. Charge by charge, it all adds up, but what if it could actually save you money upfront AND help pay for your future travel? That’s exactly what I got my Chase credit card to do for me! So how can you do this too?
First, I must admit, I’m VERY particular when it comes to my jeans. I love 7 for All Mankind, but with an average pair of denim retailing nearly $200 or more, you wouldn’t think it’s possible to get these significantly cheaper than a pair of Levis’. I started by going to the 7 for All Mankind website, and noticed that there was a summer sale with promo code “SAVE100” that takes $100 off of $350 or more. Okay, my target is now to spend $350, so that my actual cost is $250, If my execution is flawless, I’ll save 28.6%. Then I looked at the site and noticed several styles with my favorite type of denim were on sale from their retail price of $189/each to $79/each, another savings of 58.2%. In order to meet the $350 spend threshold, I picked up five pairs in total. Four pairs normally valued at $189/each and one at $248! This totaled in at $395 with their $79 sale.
Normal Retail Cost: $189 x 4x = $756 + (1 x $248). Total: $1,004
Sale price: $79/each = $395
Summer Sale: $395 - $100 = $295 + $27.30 in tax = $322.30 (with shipping
Now this is where it gets really interesting: Chase Offers and Ultimate Reward Points. I have both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Sapphire Reserve cards (I had the Preferred before the Reserve existed). The Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Chase offer was 2 URs/$1 spent at 7 for All Mankind.com, BUT, the Chase Sapphire Preferred was a whopping 5x URs/$1 spent! Let’s total up the Chase Offer points:
Total Spent: $322.30 x 5x UR points with the CSP’s Chase Offer = 1,612 URs.
Since we can take the points from Chase Sapphire Preferred’s Ultimate Reward account and effortlessly transfer them to the Chase Sapphire Reserve’s account, we can automatically guarantee that they’re worth 50% more (1.5x) when redeemed for travel. By leveraging the transfer partners, we can assume our Points Passport valuation of up to 0.02/UR as well, but we really find value in being able to redeem them directly for travel without any hoops to jump through.
Total URs: 1,612 x 0.015 (Chase Sapphire Reserve) = $24.18 for travel
The value of these Ultimate Reward points range from a guaranteed $24.18 to $32.32 or more, assuming a value of 0.02 or greater with travel partners. Since we know Chase guarantees the 0.015/UR, we’re using that value for this example. When it’s all said and done, the 7 for All Mankind jeans that retailed for over $1,000 for 5 pairs came down to an effective net cost of $298.12 with shipping AND CA sales tax, which is over 70% worth of savings! For this purchase, I spent $322.30 and now have $24.18 towards future travel, all from using the right Chase credit card combined with a Chase offer on money I needed to spend anyway!
