Here are the rumored bonus categories, features, and changes. Note: these are purely speculative and have not been confirmed with American Express.

  • 4x MR on Gas Purchases

  • MR on Streaming Services

  • Possible Free Amazon Prime Membership

  • Likely Annual Fee increase

There are several rumors floating around the travel and credit card scene right now about American Express's next card refresh! In October 2018, the American Express Gold Card was refreshed into a beautiful metal card, with a limited edition rose gold color. The Amex Gold Card's reward earning also got a nice boost to one of the best dining and grocery cards on the market. If you’re interested in learning more about the Amex Gold revamp, check out our deep dive here: 2019 Amex Gold Deep Dive. The Business Gold Card was also revamped and changes to the Business Platinum have already been announced for early 2019. The next American Express card to be revamped is rumored to the American Express Green Card. Currently the Amex Green Card is the most lack luster Amex card in their portfolio. It earns 2x Membership Reward points (MR) on every dollar spent on the Amex Travel Portal, amextravel.com, and 1x MR per dollar spent on every other purchase. Top those poor perks with a $95 annual fee and it seems like American Express is begging people not to get this card.

The Doctor of Credit reported that American Express plans to refresh the green card sometime between February and March with exciting new spending categories of 4x MR on gas purchases and 3x MR on streaming purchases. We assume this should include providers like Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify.  It is also purported that Amazon Prime Membership may be added as a perk to the revamped Green Card.

Although there is no rumor about the annual fee, we believe that if Amex were to add these new perks the annual fee will most surely go increase. If we take a look at the recent Amex revamp history, all of the annual fee's have been increasing. Amex's personal Platinum raised from $450 -> $550, the personal Gold raised from $195 -> $250, the business Gold raised from $179 -> $295, the business Platinum raised from $450 -> $595. If Amazon Prime costs $119/year than it is very likely that the Green card will be somewhere between $119 to $179 annual if we were to estimate. Of course, this is all speculation because Amex could add even more perks to the Green card, or none at all!

While researching to see if there was any gossip about the Green Card's signup bonus, we noticed something interesting. While mobile browsing on the American Express website, I was targeted with a sign up offer of 25,000 MR for $1k spend in 3 months. This was labeled as a "special offer for you". In the past, I have not seen any offer at all on the Green Card. I quickly checked with a referral link, and was offered only a 15,000 MR sign up bonus for $1k spend in 3 months. That is 10k MR less if I were to use the referral. I thought this was super strange because normally referral links tend to produce higher bonuses. I then browsed the American Express website on my desktop computer and was greeted by a the Green Card application screen with absolutely no sign up bonus or offer at all.

Hopefully something is going to happen to the Amex Green Card soon and the Points Passport will keep you updated!
