Did the Chase Sapphire Reserve Lose Its SilverCar Benefit?

Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Original SilverCar Benefit - 30% Off

One of the benefits we’ve utilized the most of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card when traveling for both business and leisure has been the 30% off SilverCar rentals, using the promo code “VINFINITE”. If you don’t know what SilverCar is, I’ll give you a quick rundown as it’s a great luxury travel hack.

A Brief Background on SilverCar

Started in 2012 with a target market of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, SilverCar was intended from day 1 to disrupt the car rental industry (TechCrunch Article from 2013). The original SilverCar fleet consisted of only brand new Audi A4 sedans, hence the name. After a long partnership with Audi, Audi eventually bought SilverCar in 2017 (See Forbes article). Throughout those 5 years, the founders grew and scaled the company to major US airport such as Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA), Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), Seattle (SEA), Denver (DEN), and currently has a total of 25 locations in the US. The purchase of SilverCar enabled Audi owners to receive exclusive 2+ day and 4+ day rental discounts.

SilverCar has since expanded their offerings to include Audi Q5s and A4 cabriolets (convertibles) at certain locations. All of these vehicles come standard with Audi Quattro (AWD), so they’re ready to take to the mountains and snow, and are an especially great value to get AWD for your next ski trip instead of renting a large 4x4 SUV from Hertz or other car rental companies for 2-5x the price. SilverCar offers ski racks as well, upon request.

What Happened to the Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefit?
Now that you know about SilverCar and why we’re such big fans, what about the Chase Sapphire Reserve discount? I went to use mine for an upcoming trip out of Denver airport to Breckenridge, CO and found it no longer worked. Upon further investigation, it turns out that you have to log into the Chase Ultimate Rewards website, and go under benefits. From there, you’re taken to a validation screen. If you hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you’ll be given a promo code for 20% off. While we’re glad they kept the SilverCar benefit, it is frustrating that Chase has quietly reduced this benefit from 30% off your rental to only 20%. It’s better than nothing, but it’s always a disappointment when you find yourself getting a little less than what you originally paid for.
